Research is underway on this one and a full write-up will be coming soon.

I came across a Vari-line grooved rubber type (Outfit D) set (utilizing ‘News Gothic Condensed’ 24_W) and am a bit fascinated with it. Have used it once or twice, but there’s so many letters missing from the set [and a severe lack of spacers] I’m limited on what I can set to print. I’ve looked for used sets to bolster up my set, but the pickings are thin to nil out there.
Any advice as to where I might find a set or two so I can utilize this ‘technology’ into my work?
CV; I’m a retired graphic artist/art director. I do a lot of artwork that employees my skill set. I do use a bit of rubber stamps in my work and do have custom stamps made from my own illustrations and other line art.
I’d love to know more about the vari-line product line and am very interested in the ‘Commercial Printing Press.’ (My Outfit D came with a produce brochure and even it’s original 12-7, 1950 receipt from “Caldwell-Sites Co., Ronnie, Virginia “).
